Magic Does The Business!

Some thoughts on selecting a Corporate Entertainer

Everybody seems to love a little magic!

It can be fun, mystifying and seriously thought-provoking. So no wonder magic is often used as a form of corporate entertainment.

There are many magicians on the circuit who bill themselves as “Corporate Magician” or “Trade Show Magician” but are they in reality what they say they are?

Any magician can come along and perform their tricks at your company function or exhibition and they will no-doubt go down well. But what else can they offer in terms of flexibility and creative input that gives their presence an extra edge? An extra edge that may deliver better results for your business!

It is a question of balance. On the one hand you want your Corporate Magician to be totally comfortable with his material in order to put on a good show and on the other you need flexibility to fit in with your event and someone who can give the benefit of his experience to help you succeed.

Furthermore a really good Corporate Entertainer can create or modify his material specifically to suit your needs or sell your message.

In short, just like in any business paradigm the real secretto using Corporate Magic is ADDING VALUE.

So what ways are there in which you can use a Magician as a Corporate Entertainer?

Entertain & Reward

Magical entertainment breaks the ice and adds a special touch to any event. So during your client dinner, company banquet, team fun-day, staff party or awards event a Magician can be one of your biggest assets. Whether he performs table magic, mix and mingle tricks or even gives a mind-reading cabaret show your staff and guests will be left amazed and thoroughly entertained.

They will still be talking about the event months even years afterwards – now that is a result!

Exhibit & Promote

Trade shows, conferences, exhibitions and seminars can be mind numbingly dull. What is the secret to getting your stand or booth more attention than the rest?

Perhaps a little magic can help.

Sometimes at exhibitions your booth seems to be “off the beaten track” and you get few delegates passing by. A magician can go off into the trade-show crowd acting a greeter and ambassador for your company. He can engage with your target clients by performing a little magic and leave them with a memento which of course has your stand detail on it.

Another approach is to draw a crowd around your exhibition stand by having a magic short show, say 7 minutes repeated 4 or 5 times an hour. A real professional corporate magician will work with you to incorporate your company messages into his act. Perhaps also helping by identifying or even sourcing appropriate give-aways.

Give him a public address system and let him take centre stage – he will soon draw a big crowd around your trade show booth! But don’t let him talk too long, you need plenty of time for your team to talk to and “scan” all those new leads!

Communicate & Motivate

Magicians are great communicators. Let’s face it they have to be as we all know they have a limited time in which to grab your attention, direct your eyes and you mind and pull off an astonishing feat or three.

That ability to communicate is the key differentiator between a real entertainer and a guy who simply does a few tricks. This difference is especially important in the world of corporate entertainment.

But “business is business” so when the time for pure fun is over it is time to say thank you and goodbye to your Corporate Magician - right?

Not a bit of it!

His skills are not solely applicable to entertaining. These are core skills which you and your team can use to make a measurable difference in your performance and in your interaction with clients and with each other.

You will no doubt see and perhaps learn a little of these skills if you engage a Corporate Magician for your event. Perhaps you should ask him what else he can do for your company!

Back To Business

So choosing a Corporate Magician is mot as simple as identify a tag or label and buying off the shelf. He really needs to prove that he can work with you to add value, and that he has a proven track record.

Better still why not find a magician who has worked on your side of the fence in the past. One who has “brainstormed” a marketing strategy with his colleagues or stood on a trade show stand for days on end.

In short – be sure your Magician truly is a Corporate Entertainer and not just a guy who has done some entertainment for a handful of corporate clients…there is a difference!
